Business Cards, Marketing Tools, Tips and Mistakes

Monday, April 13, 2009

Marketing tools will never make or break a company, but they can enhance your image and professionalism in the field.  Business cards are sometimes the first impression seen by your potential customers.  A good business card can convey your style, your services, and most important, a call to action for your customers to call you with a project.  Tyler S. Clark, a friend of mine, sent on this video the other day that had me cracking up.  Take a quick look and then let's discuss..................

He has me for maybe the first :45 seconds, I agree your card does show your image, and a cheap card can convey a cheap company image, but oh boy, how we go downhill quickly.  First, if it takes you 25 years to design a business card, your business already folded three times, or you are so succesful, who needs business cards!  $4 dollars per card?  WTH??  Won't fit in a rolodex?  Well, I bet it will then fit in a nice round trash receptacle, or in the drawer for misfit crap you don't know what to do with.   A pop-up really?? That's about where I lost it in uncontrollable fits of laughter.  What does your business card say about you?  A good marketer will help you create a card with your companies image in mind that both builds brand identity, and gives your company a little personal flair.

Some of my favorite marketing tools are the one's that have already been created but used in a fun and new way.  From mouse pads to pens and DVD's, a good marketing company can get your message out there in a creative way, that defines your company and creates a memorable impression on your customers.  Some of the mistakes in marketing materials are sending the wrong message or format that is incongruent with your business.   A company that stresses originality and design in their work, should never have marketing material without an illustration of that creativity.  Conversely, a company that is known for knowledge based information or thought, would be smart to use simple, clean design that shows clarity of thought and design.  For more information or to discuss how to find what design works best for you, give us a call.  Until then, have a great week and hope you had a good Easter/Passover holiday....Scott
